The short version

  • Six clubs are left after Finals Week 1. South Sydney Rabbitohs and North Queensland Cowboys are out.
  • The Dolphins and Penrith Panthers won in Finals Week 1 and have no Week 2 game. Penrith 19–12 against the Roosters, the Dolphins 26–16 against the Warriors.
  • Penrith and the Warriors had the best records, 18–6, and the two best points differentials. +336 and +310 over 24 games.
  • The Warriors and the Dolphins both won their last six regular-season games.

The regular season

Penrith Panthers and New Zealand Warriors both went 18–6, with points differentials of +336 and +310, the two best in the competition. The Dolphins were 17–7 and +156, the Sydney Roosters 16–8 and +118. Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle Knights both went 14–10, but Cronulla's differential of +149 was the fourth best in the league and Newcastle's +42 was the eighth best, the lowest of the six still playing.

Big days and bad days

Two of the six never lost by more than 18 points: Penrith's heaviest loss was 16, against Canterbury Bulldogs in Round 6, and the Warriors' was 18, against Wests Tigers in Round 4.

Three of the season's biggest scores belong to clubs still playing. Penrith beat Wests Tigers 68 to 0in Round 14. Cronulla beat the Dolphins 66 to 0 in Round 19, which is also the Dolphins' heaviest loss of the year. The Roosters beat North Queensland Cowboys 82 to 12 in Round 22, a margin of 70.

The Warriors and the Dolphins came into the finals on six straight wins. The Dolphins then beat the Warriors 26 to 16 in Finals Week 1.
