Data sources
Almost everything here is built on data maintained by other people, most of it free and public. They deserve the credit — loudly, here, not buried in a footer. Where we pay for a feed, that's said too: a source we bought is still a source we didn't gather.
- Squiggle — api.squiggle.com.au is a free community API run by footy-stats enthusiasts. Fixtures, venues, and final scores — our schedule and results feed, and the backbone of the daily update.
- AFL Tables — afltables.com is the internet's great AFL archive: every player's numbers for every game, maintained by volunteers for decades. Every AFL hit rate, split and rank on this site ultimately counts rows that these people typed up before anyone thought to thank them. We read each team's page once a day, cache aggressively, and keep our footprint small and polite.
- NRL — nrl.com publishes the draw and a full match centre for every game. The fixtures, the rosters and around sixty stats per player come from there — the league's own numbers, read the same way your browser reads them.
- NBL — box scores, play-by-play and shot coordinates come from the same feed that powers nbl.com.au's own match pages, operated by Sportradar.
- odds-api.net — odds-api.net is the paid subscription behind the Australian bookmakers' player prices on AFL, NRL, NBL and WNBA pages. We pay for our price feeds, and paying is the point: it is how we can show you what you're being offered without taking a cent from the bookmaker offering it.
- the-odds-api.com — the-odds-api.com is a second paid price feed we subscribe to.
- BALLDONTLIE — balldontlie.io supplies the WNBA and NBA box scores, player records and injury statuses, and the NFL's box scores and player records, on paid plans.
- Open-Meteo — open-meteo.com provides the historical and forecast weather for each venue's coordinates — how we know which past games were wet and what Saturday looks like. We read it from Open-Meteo's open data, published under CC BY 4.0, built on the German Weather Service's (DWD) ICON model.
- Jersey lettering — Big Shoulders Display, Archivo Black, Anton and Barlow Condensed, all under the SIL Open Font License. Club colours from each club's published colours.
How we treat their work
- Credit on every page that matters — here, the methodology page, and wherever data appears in-product.
- Politeness by design — incremental daily reads that skip what we already hold, cached results, a self-identifying User-Agent with a real contact address on every request, no hammering, no redistribution of their raw data.
- Money where it belongs — if any of these projects accept support, we'll contribute as revenue allows, and we'll say so here.
- A standing invitation — if you maintain one of these sources and have concerns about how we use it, data@projectpunt.com.au reaches a human immediately.
