The short version
- The last four are the top four on the ladder: Fremantle, Sydney, Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn. Geelong, fifth, lost its semi-final to Fremantle.
- Sydney and Hawthorn won in finals week 1 and went straight through; Fremantle and Brisbane Lions lost, then won their semi-finals. Hawthorn 72–40 at Perth Stadium, Sydney 141–88 at the SCG.
- Both preliminary finals are rematches from the season. Fremantle beat Sydney by 38 in Round 18; Brisbane Lions beat Hawthorn by 67 in Round 22, Hawthorn's heaviest loss of the year.
- Brisbane Lions won the 2024 and 2025 grand finals. 120–60 against Sydney, 122–75 against Geelong.
The ladder
Fremantle finished first on 76 premiership pointswith a percentage of 137.2. Sydney were second on 72 and 136.1, a whisker behind on percentage and a win behind on points. Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn both finished on 64 points, and percentage split them: 121.7 to 120.1. Hawthorn's 64 came from 15 wins and two draws; Brisbane Lions had 16 wins. Geelong were fifth on 60.

Four seasons, four shapes
Sydney finished the home-and-away season with five straight wins. They won four games by 10 points or fewer and did not lose one by that little: every Sydney loss was by more than 10. Their biggest win was 163 to 35 against West Coast in Round 4, a margin of 128, and their heaviest loss was 43 against Brisbane Lions in Round 16.
Brisbane Lions swung the widest. They lost to Greater Western Sydney by 78 in Round 11, 88 to 166, and beat Essendon by 90 in Round 18. None of their 16 wins was by 10 points or fewer.
Hawthorn's biggest win was 93 against Essendon in Round 20, and their heaviest loss came two weeks later: 67 against Brisbane Lions in Round 22.
Fremantle's biggest win was 124 against North Melbourne in Round 13, and their heaviest loss was their last home-and-away game, 37 against Carlton.
